MINERS v CELTIC
Both teams served up a treat playing the game on St Benedicts astro it encouraged the lads to play good football. Celtic had the better of the first half passing the ball realy well but without creating a good opening, that was until Luke Dunn fired a shot in from a long way out and it found the back of the net 1-0 at half time.  Into the second half Miner's had a couple of half chances but were unable to beat Mark Miller in the Celtic goal, and the points were soon in the bag thanks to a quick brace from Jack Fee  - SUPERB!!

Final score Miners 0 Celtic 3.

CELTIC HIT COCKERMOUTH FOR SIX

Under 10s Div 3 Celtic got off to a flyer eventual man of the match Cameron Rowe let one go from along way out and was surprised as everyone when it hit the back of the net.  Celtic continued to play good football and got the next through Luke Dunn (welcome back bhoy)again a well struck shot from outside the area, Celtic went three up after Luke Dunn crossed for Lewis Close who controlled it first time and curled his shot into the bottom corner.  Into the second half and Cockermouth started the brighter Ben Wright played a through ball that Ryan Gorley ran onto and scored a well taken goal. This got Cockermouth's tails up and Mark Miller had to make some good saves to deny them another also in defence all game Curtis Teare, Kieran Riley and Aaron Smith were outstanding.  Cameron put pay to a Cockermouth come back when he dribbled his way through to slot home his second calmly placing his shot passed Jordan Bland who had made some excellent saves throughout the game to earn MOM for Cockermouth, one save from Jack Fee off a free kick when it looked certain to be a goal.  Mitchell Wood got the fifth following a good cross from Callum Graffin he hit a first time shot, Lewis completed the score line getting his second to make the final score 6-1.

ST'Bees v Celtic

Two of the top teams met at the Adams ground St' Bees and served up a cracker of a game.  Both teams were evenly matched with not many goal scoring opportunities as the defences stood strong and blocked out each others attacks.  Kieran Riley and Curtis Teare were Celtics top defenders, with Patrick Brennan in fine form the bees.

Celtic won the game in the second half with a well taken goal.  The move started off with Callum Graffin after beating a couple of players down the right he then cut the ball through to Lewis Close who hit a first time curling shot from the edge of the area up and over the keeper.  St Bees put pressure onthe celtic towards the end of the game and nearly equalised but the ball struck the side of the net. M.O.M Cameron Rowe.

FINAL SCORE 0-1 CELTIC

Whitehaven Amateurs 1 vs 2 Celtic u9s

Played down on the astro turf whitehaven made the pitch as small as possible no surprises there, both teams started well but just cancelled each other out i knew after the first 10 mins it was going to be a tight afare. Whitehaven scored first after a good move and it stayed that way until half time.We started better in the second half Curtis came in at sweeper after missing the last two games and gave us some stability cutting out anything that got past Aaron and Kieron, mind you they never got past them much. From midfield to going forward we kept a much better shape and caused them all kinds of problems which in the end brought its rewards, our first came after Mitchell played Lewis in who cut back squared it to Cameron who side footed it nicely into the corner 1-1 game on .We soon went in front again Lewis found Jack in space on the left who made no mistake with a nice left foot finnish, Callum Graffin played his second game for us after moving from Friz and is fitting in well the only other player to mention is Mark who is improving every week after some one to one coaching keep it up. Well done boys it was a good win not many teams will take points off them.

Seaton 2 vs 0 Celtic u9s

We made a poor start to the game after only 3 minutes we failed to clear our lines and Seaton punished us with a well taken goal.Seaton continued to put us under pressure which we handled well and on a couple of occasions we created half chances, Jack had a well driven shot curl away from the right hand post and Lewis had a similar shot that went wide but other than that we found it hard to adapt to the wet conditions. It looked like we would turn around only 1 down and playing down hill we could go for the result but after some poor marking off a corner a Seaton player got a free header to score half time 2-0.The heads were down but we had a good half time team talk and spirits were lifted slightly the second half was a different story Mark was redundant and we started to play some good football and create chances. Cameron skipped past two men down the right only to see his cross come shot well saved by the keeper, then Lewis found some space but connected to well with his shot and it went just over the bar.Heads were now well and truly up and from a resulting corner Jack found himself in space to volley it well but yes to well again just over the bar.We put them under all kinds of pressure but they never broke their keeper was m.o.m he made another two saves one from Mitchell tipping a good shot round the post and another from Lewis pushing a shot over the bar, Lewis was awarded M.o.M for his hard work and commitment but you could say that for all of them in the second half the lads were excellant,on another day we would have won this game easy buts that's football there was some solum faces at the end which is good because we don't like getting beat but you played really well and there's a long way to go and revenge will be sweet mark my words.

Celtic u9s 8 vs 0 Miners

After a weeks break for the team and a weekend on the drink for me with the 1st and 2nd team coach all batteries were charged and we were ready for the next game. It was an unusual situation as I only had 7 players available for the game, anyhow it was seven good ones at that. Whitehaven Miners were the opposition (the pit men) well they should have stayed in their pits, because they were no opposition. The score finished Celtic 8 Miners 0 and our keepers didn't make a save in the whole game. Mark played the first half in goals then came out and did well outside, Kieran went in for the second half so I could give him a rest as he was running cockermouth fell straight after the game, (how did you get on?). The scorers were Lewis with his first hat-trick of the season, Curtis 2, Kieran 1, Cameron 1 and Mitchell 1. The only other player left to mention is Aaron who had a solid game at the back and helped his team keep a clean sheet, well done the magnificent seven. Thanks to Billy for ref'ing the game and just a small note to parents, please let me know if the kids are missing any weekends between now and Christmas. It's tight for players and I don't want to be left short. Next week away to Seaton.

Celtic u9s 6 vs 1 Workington

The only thing that i was worried about was would the game the night before affect them, that was soon put to bed as we just continued to play our football and in the end it was a route, 6-1. Scorers were Cameron with two, Lewis, Mitchell, Jack and Kieran (1st for the season) we gave away another silly goal, we will have to cut them out, well done all the boys.

Saturday 21st September 2007 (League Cup 2nd Rnd)
Bigrigg 2 vs 0 Celtic u9s

Last week the u9s played Bigrigg u10s in the league cup and went out following a 2-0 defeat. On the night the lads were brilliant i could not fault them in any way, all the lads deserved a big pat on the back because with a tiny bit of luck we would have won this game. Football wise i think we embarrassed them, they set off the game with one at the back, three across the middle and two upfront, after five minutes they changed to three at the back ,two in midfield and one upfront that tells its own story to me.The changing point Lewis hit the bar it came down and bounced out two minutes later they hit the bar it came down and bounced in, there was tears at the end not surprisingly but boys lift your heads up because i was proud of you.

Cockermouth 1 vs 3 Celtic u9s

On the Saturday we went to Cockermouth in the league and without braking sweat we won comfortably 3-1. We scored 3 excellent goals which they all involved good team work in build up play, passing and great finishing by the scorers. Lewis got the first he was put through on goal and as the keeper slid out he lifted the ball over him well taken my son take a bow. The next one Jack finished off a great move the ball came across to him from right to left and with a first time side foot he put it across the keeper into the far corner take a bow. The last one was as good as the first two again great passing found Cameron unmarked and his first time shot with the outside of his right foot found the bottom left corner take a bow. They scored a late consorlation i dont want to mention two much( i hate conceeding goals). Finaly well done to everyone the lads not mentioned Curtis, Aaron, Kieran, Damon have also had a great start to the season and competition for places is healthy.
Friday Bigrigg away meet at the club 4.15 k.o.5.00
Saturday Workington home meet at cleator 12.30

Friday 14th September 2007 (League Cup 1st Round)
Celtic u9s 3 vs 0 Cockermouth

On the Friday night we played at home in the cup up on the celtic field with a large crowd up to watch, we started well and went 1 up after 5 mins Luke fired in a low drive only to see their keeper make a great save but he could not hold it and Lewis pounced to score the rebound. Our next goal was a slice of luck but i gave it to Cameron after his hard work he found space to let fly and it took a wicked deflection off the defender and looped over the keeper 2-0. Into the second half i made changes one was to swap the keepers Mitchell went in and Mark came out and i don't know which one provided the most entertainment, Mitchell kept forgetting to use his hands and was dribbling the ball out of his penalty area and Mark well he was just everywhere trying like mad to score anyhow the crowd loved it. Jack had the final say to score with his trusted left foot to make the final score 3-0. Well done everyone, in the next round we are away to Bigrigg U10s a tough game in store but we will give it our best shot i know we will.

Saturday 8th September 2007
Celtic u9s 5 vs 2 St Bees

In the corresponding fixture last year, first game of the season, we got beat 2-1. It was never going to happen again this year. After playing Ian's team midweek we had a really hard work out (thanks for that Ian) which had prepared us well for Saturday. We started brightly passing the ball around but in the last third failed to create an opening. St bees battled hard and kept us at bay until half time. Into the second half we began to create space and after 4 mins Luke fed Lewis who took the ball in his stride and finished his chance well. The second came soon after, this time Lewis set up Luke, Lewis turned back on the corner of the box squared the ball to Luke who drove it first time into the back of the net for the goal of the game. Then Jack got in on the act and within 10 mins got himself a hat-trick, all well taken goals inside the area. I changed it around a bit and had players playing out of posistion we conceeded 2 late goals near to the end which dissapointed me as we should have kept a clean sheet, otherwise a good performance and a 5-2 win to get us started, well done all. This week on Friday home to cockermouth in the cup 6.00 k.o.on the Celtic. On Saturday away to Cockermouth in the league k.o.TBC.
