Club History
Cleator Moor Celtic Football Club was founded in 1908-09. There are rumours abound of a team that started under that banner a little earlier, however 1908 seems to be the official 'starting point'. At the time of writing, this leaves us less than 2 years short of our centenary season. |
Cleator Moor Celtic are a team with a long and very proud tradition. We are a Club with a lot of history and are growing stronger with each season.
The Club was founded by Irish immigrants employed in the local iron ore mines and we are ideally situated in the centre of Cleator Moor. The Club has used the Birks Road Ground as it's base for what seems like time immemorial.
We currently have a First Team competing in the Wearside League, a Second Team competing in the West Cumberland County League and Junior Teams at many Levels.
Cleator Moor Celtic are at the forefront of Amateur Football Clubs in the County of Cumbria after winning prestigious trophies such as the 'County Cup' in 1999. In recent times players have been supplied to Sheffield Wednesday, Blackpool, Ipswich, Carlisle United and most recently, Scott Carson to Leeds (Now Charlton Athletic and Englands regular Under 21 keeper). This reflects the time and effort that our staff and players put into the club and the standard of player that is produced. In more recent times we have seen some of our younger players being selected to play for Carlisle United youth teams including Callum Birdsall, Luke Close and Adam Meagan (see below).

Cleator Moor Celtic would like to thank you, our supporters for enabling us to become the club we are now and we look forward to your continuing support in the years to come.
